Hong Kong has long been a popular stop over destination for Australians travelling further afield however it really is showing itself as a destination in its own right.  A visually stunning city offering an attractive harbour surrounded by large skyscrapers, whilst it still has a mix of colonial buildings and street markets.  Hong Kong is one of the world's major financial and trading centres. There are three main parts to Hong Kong the two most populated are Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, the other is Lantau Island which is home to Hong Kong Disneyland.  Hong Kong has a further 260 outlying islands which are mainly uninhabited.

Disneyland Hong Kong, on Lantau Island, has a range of shows, rides and attractions for kids of all ages including roller coasters, jungle shows and of course all the Disney characters and parades that Disneyland is famous for. There are also two Disneyland Hotels which families will love.  There are some beautiful temples in Hong Kong to discover and the sitting buddha on Lantua Island is popular with visitors.  Its also great to wander the small fishing villages on Lantau and see the cultural side of Hong Kong.

The street markets are also well worth a visit selling everything from bags to birds and clothing to catfish. The Stanley street day markets on Hong Kong Island are popular as are the street markets in Kowloon.
No trip to Hong Kong is complete without a ride on a Hong Kong island tram for just a couple dollars sit onboard these incredibly skinny trams as they pass by each other with just millimetres to spare.  The star ferry is also a cheap and enjoyable way to view the harbour.

Dont miss the symphony of lights show each evening when all the tall buildings of Hong kong light up and present a laser and light show timed to music.  Grab yourself a good spot alongside the harbour to view this evening spectacular that big and little kids will love.

Currency is the Hong Kong Dollar, ATM's are readily available.   Summers are hot, with the rainy season running from June to August. Spring and autumn are warm with occasional rain and cooler evenings. Winter can be cold, but most days are mild.
