Few people know that you can explore the Fijian islands and waterways by cruise ship.  These aren't the large 2000 plus people ships we see departing Australia but a small boutique ship that comes fully equipped with kayaks, glass boat boats, paddle boards, snorkelling gear, swimming pool, day spa, restaurant, bar and kids activities.  Holding approx 130 passengers this Captain Cook Fiji cruise ship is small enough to navigate between the beautiful islands and reefs of Fiji but large enough to have all the comforts you love on holiday.

We travelled on a 4 day/ 3 night journey through the Southern Yasawa Islands and without a word of a lie this has to be one of the best holidays of my life! ..  big call from someone who travels for a living!

The cruise departs from Denarau Marina in Fiji approx 30 mins taxi or drive from Nadi airport.  We had decided to stay a few nights pre cruise at the beautiful family friendly Radisson Resort in Denarau so it was just a very quick 10 min journey for us to the marina.  Hoping onto the cruise boat is easy and efficient with just 130 guests maximum there are no long queues or immigration checks its just welcome aboard and an introduction to the ship and your cabin.  You'll have your bearings on this ship within 10 minutes and feel like you are right at home!

Family cabins that interconnect are available so that's super news for water loving families.  I think these cruises are most suited to families with school aged kids and teens.  The beauty of this ship and its itinerary is that kids and adults can do everything together, and it really is for the active family. If you don't like sand between your toes, meeting villagers, exploring, bushwalking, kayaking, diving, snorkelling and swimming with millions of fish at every available opportunity then it may not be for you.  The crew are happy to offer activities and separate dining in the evening for kids though so if you are looking for that romantic dinner for two then just ask, the crew are super accommodating.

We love the water and the sun, so for us it was just the best!  During the day you actually aren't on the ship that much (of course if you do need some down time, you can choose to stay on board if you like and lay by the pool or head to the day spa).  The boat will travel in the evenings and whilst you are back on board having lunch but every morning and afternoon we were at another gorgeous island location, swimming, kayaking, snorkelling, paddle boarding, glass bottom coral viewing, bushwalking to island lookouts, or visiting a Fijian island village.

The crew load food, drinks, kayaks, paddle boards and everyone onto the glass bottom tender and off you go to a beautiful island or sandbar and set up camp for a few hours of fun, fun, fun.  The crew are fantastic, it all runs so efficiently and professionally all you have to do is get out of bed, turn up for breakfast with your swimmers on and towel in hand ready for a day of activities.  All meals are included, (drinks at your own expense) most meals were on the boat, some in the dining room, some by the pool, but we were treated to some very special traditional feasts and celebrations with locals at their island villages.  We visited the school and the island children were so happy to show us around before a game of rugby took over which we all joined in on.  Then it was into the ocean to all cool off and play some more. Great and special memories indeed.

Although our cruise was just 4 days we discovered so many different islands and beaches, every morning and afternoons snorkelling and swimming location was totally different with the fish and coral varying hugely from reef to reef.  I didn't dive myself on this trip but everyone that did just raved about how fantastic the diving was and they couldn't seem to get enough of it, many doing night dives also.   There is no charge for any of the water activities except diving so its also a great opportunity to learn or improve on your skills like kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling etc all in stunning locations.  We felt very safe at all times and the crew can teach or help you with any of the equipment, plus they always choose safe swimming locations without rips or running tides and carried all first aid gear, plus plenty of sunscreen and water.

For me its hard to beat spending a day on and in the water then coming back to a great shower, a beautiful meal cooked and severed to you, dining with new friends in the restaurant, then sitting around the pool, cocktail in hand as your ship cruises on as the sun goes down in search of another prefect location.  If you've still got energy you can head to the top deck for a spa before calling it a night and returning to your comfortable air conditioned cabin for a superb nights sleep.

There are a whole range of itineraries on offer from 3 day to 11 day.  They cover different locations and islands and also depart on different days of the week, best to chat with our team about your preferred travel dates to look at options.

If this sounds like your perfect holiday then give our team a call 1300 296 543 or enquire online or message us via Facebook I do recommend that you add a few nights pre or post cruise, or both, at any one of the beautiful resorts in Fiji for another totally different experience.  Our team can arrange this too and package it all together with flights to and from Australia.
